Hi Marilyn,

Thank you for the add! I pulled you off of Aine's friend list, because many of things you mention in your "read about" resonate with me. We share many of the same interests that I am currently studying in depth (race/gender/sex/sexuality/class etc) in an MA Sociology program at UCCS.

I am relatively new to newsvine, and not as active as I would like to be, due to a hectic academic schedule, but I do look forward to reading your articles and getting to know you better.

Thanks for the friend invite. I must admit, I have not read much of your stuff or really know where you stand on issues. If we agree on things, we can be friends in support of each other. If we do not agrees on things, we can friends in argument and hope that we learn from each other. Either way, thanks for the invite.

Thank you for the friendship! I've been reading through your articles and a bit of irony... I am a bee activist in my artwork. I make recycled art, right now I'm working on collages with old wooden framed windows and magazine cut outs, as well as picture frames. I include a bee from Haagen Daaz ice cream ads on all my work.

Thank you for the kind invite Marilyn. My wife reckons I am a classic Right of Atilla the Hun kind of guy, but she's still around after 35 wonderful years, so I guess there's hope yet for this bullish male ..... she even taught me to smile when I growl :)

I look forward to seeing more calming influences from yourself out there on the streets where life can get a little too testosterone ladden even for my traditional "old world" outlook on life, where "please" and "thank you" are not curiosities of a bygone age.

Love Your Header by the Way - still not thought of an appropriate one for myself yet. My lovely wife pursuaded me "Attilla the Hun" wasnt going to cut it :)

Marilyn was one of my early friends on Newsvine and she has also turned out to be one of my best friends and not just a "cyber friend" that I would only chat on Newsvine with, but one that I am sure if I met in the real world, would call a real physical friend, and for me, that does not happen too often and that is a awesome feeling. She also happens to be a great writer, always upbeat, very well educated and very supportive. She is one of the best examples of a top writer and person on Newsvine and one wonderful person.

your comments about sharia law as well as israeli society are both issues i grapple with. how can democracy & islam reconcile? since the nation-state experiment is new in the ME, how will purported theo-democracies evolve? do we judge how democratic a society is based on how minorities are treated? that is my tendency, but how fluid a concept is a WORK-IN-PROGRESS democracy? it took the U.S. almost 200 yrs before most minorities had legal rights...and look at all the challenges still before us...btwn judgment and perception, how can collective progress be made on these issues...hmmm

just dishin some thoughts. thanks for the welcome!
